UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas overcame a 13-point deficit to beat Far Eastern University, 81-80, on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym to advance into the next round of the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball stepladder playoff.

The Tiger Cubs went on a 14-0 run to stun the Baby Tamaraws to clinch a playoff for the finals spot with National University.

The Bullpups, the second-seed in the stepladder, will have a twice-to-beat advantage over the Tiger Cubs. The showdown begins on Tuesday, 4 p.m., at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Rayjhun Baquial gave UST the upper hand, 80-79, to cap off that shocking run, before Kobe Palencia split his charities for final score.

Season Most Valuable Player CJ Cansino had 18 points, 16 rebounds and five assists, while Baquial had another big game, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists for the Tiger Cubs, who needed a playoff victory over Adamson for fourth spot in the semifinals.

RJ Abarrientos had 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists for the Baby Tamaraws, who lost to UST in the final game of the elimination round that allowed the Tiger Cubs to arrange a playoff match for No. 4 with Adamson.
