UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas kept its Final Four bid alive after beating Far Eastern University-Diliman, 64-62, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Losers of five of its last six games prior to Sunday’s match, the Tiger Cubs came up with a huge win to force a playoff for the fourth spot against Adamson on a date to be determined.

Adamson, which beat De La Salle-Zobel earlier in the day, and UST ended up with a 7-7 tie at the end of the eliminations.


CJ Cansino had 26 points, nine rebounds and five assists for UST, which fought back from 10 points down.

Liam Manabat had 11 points including a triple with 1:50 left in the fourth to break a 60-60 deadlock.

Daniel Celzo made a putback with 4.2 seconds to play, but missed a short stab at the buzzer.

“Sabi ko bago mag-umpisa, ano ba tayo? Ilalaglag na lang ba natin ’yung bandera natin o papakita natin ‘yung character natin, which is nangyari nga,” said UST coach Chris Cantonjos.

L-Jay Gonzales had 13 points for the Baby Tamaraws, who had earlier secured third spot and ended up with an 8-6 record.
