CJ CANSINO will immediately play an integral role for University of Santo Tomas' seniors team after committing to stay with the Growling Tigers, according to head coach Aldin Ayo.

Ayo confirmed Cansino is already with the Tigers after posting a photo on his social media accounts showing him with the UAAP Season 80 Juniors MVP from UST Tiger Cubs.

“For sure, hindi basta basta line-up. He is going to play a big role sa team namin,” Ayo told SPIn.ph when asked what role the teenager is bound to play with the Tigers.

Ayo said Cansino was heavily-recruited by many schools including National University, Far Eastern University, and Letran, but chose to stay with UST.

“In the first place, he never left. Ever since, gustong-gusto ng bata sa UST. True-blooded Thomasian siya. Nararamdaman niya na may utang na loob siya sa UST, na sa UST siya makakapaglarong maayos especially dito siya nagkaroon ng pangalan sa high school.

“Kailangan niya ibalik sa UST. Gustong-gusto niya maglaro sa seniors considering na maraming nagre-recruit sa kanya,” said Ayo.

On his way to winning the MVP, the 6-foot-2 Cansino averaged 24.6 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.4 steals for the Tiger Cubs while showing versatility by playing multiple positions.

Cansino was the first UST Tiger Cub since Kevin Ferrer in 2010 to win the UAAP juniors MVP.

Ayo said Cansino has a lot of upside on offense as well as the potential to be a great defensive player because of his work ethic.

Those traits, according to Ayo, makes Cansino a perfect fit for his ‘Mayhem’ system of play.

“Sa offense, kumpleto ‘yung bata. He can play on the open court, half court, he can slash, he can shoot threes, pull-up jumpers. If there is one thing that he has to work on, it’s his defense na sa tingin ko naman ay kaya ni CJ kasi athletic, maganda ‘yung footspeed niya, at fighter naman ‘yung bata.

“Sa tingin ko, kapag naituro sa kanya ‘yung sistema, gugustuhin niya dumepensa. Sa tingin ko makaka-adjust ‘yung bata. Maganda ‘yung ugali ng bata. Gusto matuto at grabe ang work ethic,” said Ayo.
