LOUIE Vigil scored the marginal basket and University of Santo Tomas pulled down four offensive rebounds in the final minute to pull off a 61-59 win over Adamson on Saturday in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Vigil scored 13 points and converted a go-ahead jumper with 1:57 left in the game to give the Tigers a 60-59 lead, then UST managed to keep the ball on its side despite four missed shots.

Aljon Mariano split his two charities off an offensive rebound with 7.3 seconds left in the game, and that proved to be enough for the Tigers to break a three-game losing streak as William Polican missed a corner triple.

The Tigers started the second round on a winning note, improving their record to 4-4.

“’Yung Adamson, they played very good defense again. Hindi kami maka-convert ng outside shots. Hindi kami maka-penetrate. Good thing, sa huli, naka-rebound. Maraming offensive rebounds si Aljon,” said UST coach Bong dela Cruz.

Ed Daquioag added 11 points for the Tigers. Mariano had seven poits but grabbed 12 rebounds while Jan Sheriff had six steals.

The loss spoiled the efforts of Jansen Rios, who finished with 22 points. Don Trollano had 16 points while Axel Inigo added 11 in the Falcons’ best game of the season since dropping a one-point decision to UST in the first round.

Still, the Falcons dropped to a 0-8 win-loss record despite failing to keep a five-point lead in the fourth. Adamson last kept a 59-58 lead.
