AFTER posting career-high numbers across the board last season, promising University of the Philippines wingman Paul Desiderio is looking forward to taking his game to new heights under the tutelage of newly-appointed Maroons head coach Bo Perasol.

Desiderio, a former juniors MVP of the Cebu Schools Athetic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) and one of the top guns of the 2014 edition of the Batang Gilas Pilipinas, was filled with excitement over the hiring of Perasol, a former Maroon who traces his roots to Davao.

“I feel so overwhelmed having Coach Bo (Perasol) as our new coach. I guess we can easily communicate and relate with each other too since we both come from Visayas,” shared Desiderio in an interview with SPIN.ph in between his classes.

“I think he could be able to help me improve by knowing my strengths and weaknesses. By that he would know what drills I should focus on to help me strengthen my weaknesses and would let me do drills to enhance my strengths,” added the young hardcourt buck, who posted career-high figures of 12.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in 25.2 minutes per game in Season 78 after missing the previous season due to his commitments to the national team.

“He is the kind of coach that would push me to my limits and would help me do things beyond what I think I could do to make me better,” Desiderio added.

Perasol, coming off a three-year run as head coach of Ateneo, was set to take over the Maroons’ practice for the first time on Tuesday after spending the previous day just observing the squad.

Asked if he will take on the role of chief gunner in Perasol’s isolation-heavy schemes much like Kiefer Ravena did at the Blue Eagles’ nest, Desiderio opted to pass the role to his veteran teammate, senior guard Jett Manuel.

“Hindi pa siguro ako yun. Baka si Jett (Manuel) pa,” said the Liloan-native with a sly smile.
