UNIVERSITY of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol is confident of the Maroons’ chances against Adamson but is wary of one player, Falcons import Papi Sarr, as they face off in the opener of the UAAP Season 79 basketball tournament on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Perasol, former Ateneo coach who was tapped to take over the UP program, faces off with Franz Pumaren, a five-time champion with La Salle who has been hired to handle Adamson.

Lacking frontcourt strength, UP is expected to rely on its backcourt led by Diego Dario and Paul Desiderio.

“I think we can match up well with Adamson except for Papi Sarr. We are always weakest sa aming frontline but again, iniisip namin, those teams that we could match up well, we hope to win against them because there are programs that well ahead of us,” said Perasol.

Tip-off is at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Pumaren also expects a tough task against UP, already an experienced team despite having a similar 3-11 win-loss slate with the Falcons last year.

“With Bo Perasol, they have an experienced team already. They should have won more than their record last season. It was unfortunate that they were not able to close out their games,” said Pumaren.
