UNIVERSITY of the East coach Derrick Pumaren is turning heads these days - not just for the Red Warriors' late-season resurgence but also because of his refreshing fashion choice.

Not a few fans and mediamen noticed the get-up of the veteran coach fondly called 'Manong' by family, friends and his players on Sunday when the Warriors played the University of the Philippines Maroons in the UAAP at the San Juan Arena.

"Mainit eh," said Pumaren when asked about his attention-grabbing wardrobe made up of a folded short-sleeve polo worn over a gray shirt, slit-fit jeans, and pearly white shoes.

No wonder some mediamen said Pumaren is giving his younger brother Franz a run for his money in the fashion department. Franz, the Adamson coach, is also known for his chic choice of clothes.

The elder Pumaren, however, would have none of it.

"Nagiging bata lang sa mga bata," said Pumaren, who also wore a stylish jacket during the Warriors' match against Franz's Falcons last week.
