Jolo Mendoza, Shaun Ildefonso star as Blue Eaglets tighten grip on No. 3 spot in UAAP

JOLO Mendoza and Shaun Ildefonso displayed dominant performances as Ateneo blew past Adamson, 82-73, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 78 juniors basketball at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Mendoza led Ateneo in scoring with 16 points while Ildefonso had a huge double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds to help the Blue Eaglets secure third place with an 8-4 win-loss card.

Still, Ateneo remains two games back of De La Salle-Zobel, who currently hold the second spot with a 10-2 slate.

With the loss, Adamson slipped to 6-6 and dropped to fifth place in the tight race for the last Final Four berth.

Far Eastern University-Diliman, meanwhile, climbed to the No. 4 spot with an 86-66 win over University of Santo Tomas for a one-game lead over Adamson.

On Wednesday, the Baby Tamaraws take on University of the Philippines Integrated School at 3 p.m. while the Baby Falcons face De La Salle-Zobel at 9 a.m.

Standings: NU 12-0, DLSZ 10-2, ADMU 8-4, FEU 7-5, AdU 6-6, UST 3-9, UPIS 2-10, UE 0-12.
