NU Bullpups tighten hold on top spot, secure twice-to-beat edge with rout of UP

NATIONAL University defeated University of the Philippines, 90-64, on Wednesday to secure a twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Karl Penano had 15 points, while Rhayyan Amsali had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Bullpups, who occupied first place with a 12-1 record following the forfeiture of the games of Adamson on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University-Diliman took the second spot following a 70-56 win over De La Salle-Zobel to improve its record to 11-2.

Louell Gonzales finished with 20 points, while Rhon Abarrientos added 13 points for the Baby Tamaraws.

SJ Belangel had 14 points as Ateneo won over University of the East, 92-53, to grab third spot with a 10-3 win-loss mark.

Team standings: NU 12-1, FEU 11-2, Ateneo 10-3, UST 5-8, UPIS 5-8, DLSZ 5-8, UE 3-10, AdU 1-12.
