Strong finishing kick the one lacking in Red Warriors' arsenal, says UE gunner Roi Sumang

UNIVERSITY of the East finished its first round campaign in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament in the middle of the pack following its 72-62 win over University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday.

Come the second round, star player Roi Sumang exactly knows what and where the Warriors need to improve.

“Lagi naman kami sa fourth quarter eh, finishing lang talaga. Kapag first half, lamang kami, Siguro `yun na lang talaga. Finishing na lang,” he said.

The Warriors carry a 3-4 (win-loss) slate after the first round elimination, a stretch that saw them lose three straight games by an average margin of two points.

Although he’s not happy with the way the team performed in the first half of its campaign, Sumang is still confident about the school’s Final Four chances.

“Kumpiyansa  pa rin na may pag-asa pa kami,” said Sumang. “Hindi pa naman kami out eh. ‘Yung standing namin, 3-4, meron pang seven games sa second round. Hoping pa rin kami sa Final Four.”

Sumang said he’s not happy with the way UE finished its game against UST after again failing to protect a big 29-point lead.

The UE main man also failed to finish the game after spraining his left ankle. The injury, however, wasn’t serious.

“Masakit pa rin. Siguro mga two to three days na pahinga lang ito dahil maga talaga,” said Sumang.
