ROI Sumang has already attended practices of University of the East, but head coach Derrick Pumaren remained non-committal if he will finally suit up for the Red Warriors’ next game on September 7.

Pumaren said Sumang has joined the team practices days after he skipped Saturdays’ scrimmage that led to his benching during the Warriors’ game against National University on Sunday.

“He practiced this morning,” said Pumaren in an SMS message to without giving other details.

Sumang missed practice on the eve of the NU game after he went out of the school’s quarters on Friday only to return the following day without informing team officials.

Pumaren, however, said he is still undecided on whether Sumang will be able to play already in UE’s crucial game against Far Eastern University on Sunday.

“It will depend on his practice this week if he is ready to go for Sunday,” said Pumaren.

Even in Sumang’s absence, the Warriors beat the Bulldogs, 64-55, to win their sixth game in 11 outings that kept their hopes alive for a Final Four berth.

UE is now just one game behind NU, which is in fourth spot with a 7-4 record.

Earlier, Pumaren expressed disappointment with his star player for not attending practices in the final stretch of UE’s campaign.

“He is Roi Sumang but he is not above the law,” Pumaren said.
