A freak injury during warm-ups forced Raymar Jose to sit out Far Eastern University’s crucial game against National University on Saturday in the penultimate elimination playdate of UAAP Season 78.

FEU coach Nash Racela said Jose injured his ankle before the start of the game against the Bulldogs, forcing him to sit the forward for the entire match.

“Na-injure daw sa warm-up. We missed him talaga kanina,” said Racela.

The FEU mentor said the absence of Jose forced Mac Belo to play at power forward. He finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists in a 68-70 loss to NU as the Tamaraws suffer their second straight defeat.

“We were forced to play Belo at the four (power forward). Na-iba ‘yung plano namin,” Racela admitted.

“The whole week, naka-prepare siya (Belo)  to play the three-spot. Maybe it’s a struggle for him,” he added.

Racela is confident Jose will be able to play against De La Salle in the team’s final elimination round game on Wednesday.

“Nagli-limp lang ng konti. Hopefully, sa next game. If he is available on Wednesday, we will play him. If not, at least rine-ready namin siya for the Final Four,” said Racela.
