PIO Longa said he was surprised to be called for a technical for wearing the wrong uniform in University of the Philippines' game against La Salle on Wednesday, saying he had been wearing the same kit the whole UAAP season.

Play was halted in early in the third period of the Green Archers' 72-68 victory over UP when the La Salle coaching staff noticed that Longa’s shorts was different from those worn by the rest of the team.

Longa's shorts had the Oblation logo on his right side while those of his teammates had it on the left, which was the correct one. The Maroons were assessed a technical foul as a result of the violation.

“I really don’t know what happened. I wasn’t aware,” said the UP player, who later changed to the correct shorts. “The whole tournament, I’ve been wearing the same shorts.”

“Well, I was like, ‘Nakita niyo pa ‘yun.’  Even I didn’t notice it. But it’s part of the game,” Longa added.

UP coach Rensy Bajar said he didn't take the incident against La Salle coaches, saying he would've done the same if an opponent had committed the same violation.

Rules are rules, Bajar added.

“Una, nagulat kami pero may rule talagang ganun. Ngayon lang din namin napansin. Hindi naman umepekto sa laro. Pero ganun din gagawin namin. ‘Yun nga lang, sana after the game na lang,” said Bajar.

La Salle coach Juno Sauler said it was his assistant coaches who noticed Longa's wrong uniform.

“I told my assistant coaches to handle it. I don’t want to meddle in that aspect,” said Sauler.
