Pido Jarencio not giving up on UST coaching job: 'Tagal sumagot, pero manliligaw pa rin ako'
Pido Jarencio on dogged pursuit of UST coaching job: 'Nagpapaturo nga ako kung sino marunong manligaw eh para mapasagot ko.' Jerome Ascano

PIDO Jarencio marked his return to the PBA as GlobalPort's head coach on Christmas Day, but that hasn't dampened his pursuit of the vacant coaching job at University of Santo Tomas.

Hours before the Batang Pier's Christmas Day match against NLEX, Jarencio tweeted about courting the Growling Tigers and not getting an answer yet.

"Pano ba manligaw? Ang tagal ko na nanliligaw ayaw parin ako sagutin! #GoUste," said Jarencio in his Twitter account @pidojarencio1.

Jarencio later confirmed sending out the tweet after their 115-104 loss, saying he'll continue to pursue the heart of the proud community despite continuously getting the cold treatment from the school.

"Ang tagal sumagot eh. Pero okay lang, manliligaw pa rin ako. Nagpapaturo nga ako kung sino marunong manligaw eh para mapasagot ko," said Jarencio, who led UST to a championship in 2006.

UAAP rules prohibit coaches from handling a pro-team and a member school at the same time. But his predecessor at GlobalPort, Franz Pumaren, managed to do it by taking on a 'consultant' role with the Batang Pier.

Jarencio doesn't see any conflict doing both jobs.

"Madali naman tayo. Matibay tayo. Wala naman tayong ibang alam kundi basketball lang. Sana ba kung science ang usapan di ko na kaya yun, o kaya football," Jarencio said with a laugh.

"Basketball din naman yun eh. Isa lang ang trabahong gagawin natin."
