UNIVERSITY of the East's Paul Varilla made a boo-boo on Wednesday when he scored an own goal right in the first play of its game against University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball at the Araneta Coliseum.

Varilla stunned the early birds in the midweek crowd when he scored the own goal off the opening jump. Confusion reigned as the basket was credited to UE, before the referees made the correction a few plays later.

Kevin Ferrer was also credited with the Varilla own goal, being the team captain of the Tigers who were also rewarded with ball possession after Varilla's own goal.
