NU one win away from sweep of UAAP women's basketball tourney after rout of Ateneo

THE National University Lady Bulldogs is one win away from a sweep of UAAP Season  78 women’s basketball tournament after outplaying Ateneo, 91-59, on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Most Valuable Player Afril Bernardino had 17 points and 18 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, who can complete the sweep of the season for the second straight time in Game Two on a date still to be determined.

Risa Paig had 16 points and Shelley Gupilan added 14 for NU, which led by as many as 38 points in the wire-to-wire victory.

Katrina Guytingco added 14 points while Danica Jose had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Eagles, who need to win three times against the Lady Bulldogs to capture the title.

NU led 21-10 at the end of the first period and never looked back.
