NU Lady Bulldogs gain outright finals berth with 14-game sweep of UAAP women's hoops elims

NATIONAL University completed a 14-game sweep of the elimination round of the UAAP Season 78 women’s basketball tournament with an 81-74 win over La Salle on Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Risa Paig had 18 points, while Kristine Abriam had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs gained an outright finals berth.

NU, coached by Patrick Aquino, will have a thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals, needing to win twice against the team who will emerge from the stepladder playoff.

The Lady Archers finished with a 12-2 win-loss record for second place in the standings.

Ateneo beat Adamson, 55-41, to gain a playoff for No. 4.

Claire Aseron scored 11 points, while Danica Jose added 10 for the Lady Eagles, who will play University of Santo Tomas in the playoff for the No. 4 spot.

UST lost to University of the East, 53-68, to drop to a tie for fourth with Ateneo at 6-8.

UE gained the third seeding in the stepladder with a 7-7 slate.

Alsro-ran Far Eastern University beat University of the Philippines, 54-52, for only its third win.
