NU Lady Bulldogs given scare by UE in shaky start to quest for UAAP basketball title treble

NATIONAL University survived a rally by University of the East to squeak out a 62-58 win on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 79 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Bulldogs squandered a 16-point lead before holding on to take the slim victory in a shaky start to their bid for a third straight league championship.

Gemma Miranda had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Afril Bernardino added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the second game, La Salle thumped Far Eastern University, 76-52. Chay Vergara finished with 19 points while Snow Penaranda added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Archers.

NU and La Salle joined opening day winners Ateneo and Adamson at the top of the standings.
