Michael Malonzo's clutch heroics cap NU Bullpups rally to stun FEU Baby Tamaraws

MICHAEL Malonzo completed National University’s comeback, hitting a three-point play with 7.5 seconds left as the Bullpups edged Far Eastern University, 86-81, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Bullpups claimed their sixth win in eight outings to start the second round after coming back from 11 points down in the game.

Malonzo scored seven points but his three-point play was the most crucial of them all as it broke an 81-81 tie. He also completed a steal off an inbound play by FEU, and made two free throws to seal the win.

NU trailed 60-49 in the third quarter before making the comeback.

Rhayyan Amsali had 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. He also buried two free throws and a lay-up to put NU ahead, but FEU tied the match on a basket by Royce Alforque and a free throw by Bryan Sajonia.

Terrence Fortea added 18 points, six rebounds, and seven assists for the Bullpups.

LJ Gonzales had 21 points, while Sajonia and RJ Abarrientos tallied 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Baby Tamaraws, who now have an even 4-4 card at the start of the second round.
