FAR Eastern University coach Nash Racela sees Monbert Arong playing more minutes for the Tamaraws following his stellar play after so-so performances in UAAP Season 79.

Arong finished with 16 points and five rebounds for the Tamaraws in their 67-59 win over University of the East on Sunday despite suffering cramps late in the game.

The Cebuano guard is averaging only 15 minutes this season, but that could increase, according to Racela.

“Na-stretch ’yung minutes ni Monbert. In the first few games, he was averaging 10 minutes a ballgame. We envision him to play longer. It was nice that he was able to deliver with the minutes entrusted sa kanya,” said Racela.

Arong said he was pumped up for the match, determined to come up with a big game after struggling early in the season.

The FEU veteran, playing in his final year with the Tamaraws, is thankful for still being given opportunities this season by Racela and the rest of the coaching staff.

“Nag-cramps na eh. Siguro sa excitement sa game ’yun kasi ’yung mga previous games ko, medyo wala ako sa focus minsan. Pero okay naman kasi alam ko naman na may tiwala si coach at sa mga teammates ko,” said Arong, who is now averaging 8.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists following the UE game.

Arong is also pleased to have a long break, with the Tamaraws getting a week off before taking on University of the Philippines on Sunday.

“Malayo pa naman game namin. May time pa ako magpahinga,” said Arong.
