FAR Eastern University advanced to the quarterfinals of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup Friday following a come-from-behind 69-64 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College at The Arena in San Juan.

Former South Western University ace guard Monbert Arong scored 12 points for the Tamaraws, while Ron Dennison came off the bench to finish with the same output.

The Tamaraws improved to a 5-3 (win-loss) card and shoved reigning UAAP champion National University (4-3) out of quarterfinal contention.

Even if the Bulldogs prevail over Perpetual Help Altas on Saturday, the Tamaraws will still advance to the next round owing to the winner-over-the-other rule.

Hamadou Laminou’s 23 and Syden Onwubere’s 19 points went down the drain for EAC as the Generals absorbed their seventh loss in eight outings.

The game also saw FEU veteran Roger Pogoy figuring in a scary moment when he crashed into the goalpost during a fastbreak play.

He was later cleared to play by game medics, although coach Nash Racela no longer fielded him.
