Louie Vigil takes on leadership role as he looks to complete unfinished business at UST
"Hind na ganun ka-intact lineup namin kaya kailangan I involve myself in any aspect like rebounding, assists, points at syempre defense din. I'm confident na magiging all around ako this season," says UST veteran Louie Vigil. Jaime Campos

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas main man Louie Vigil in looking to complete unfinished business in the UAAP this season.

Tasked to lead the Growling Tigers this season after nearly getting knockout off the lineup by a rules change that has since been rescinded, Vigil now looks to win it all after coming close twice in his UST career.

"Ang hirap din iwan ng mga teammates ko. Syempre I think may gusto pa akong i-prove sa collegiate career ko," said the former NCAA Juniors MVP, a holdover from the UST squad that fell short against FEU in the finals last season.

"We have this chance to redeem ourselves again. Ilang beses na ako natalo sa finals. Ayoko na uli maramdaman 'yun."

But he knows it won't be easy, especially with the departure of former stars Kevin Ferrer, Karim Abdul, and Ed Dauioag.

This has prompted Vigil to reinvent himself. As the new leader of the Espana-based dribblers, he has vowed to transform into a more complete player and not just a scorer.

"Hind na ganun ka-intact lineup namin kaya kailangan I involve myself in any aspect like rebounding, assists, points at syempre defense din. I'm confident na magiging all around ako this season," he said.

His coach, new UST mentor Boy Sablan, attested to that.

"Sabi nga ng mga players mas magaling si Louie ngayon compared sa previous seasons nya," said Sablan. "Iba yung leadership na binigay nya this year. And naging maganda yung teamwork ng mga players ngayon."

This isn't the best UST lineup in years, but Vigil is confident the team can do wonders this season.

"We have a bunch of young players who are willing to do everything to win. Walang pride dito or ego na matatapakan. Mas gutom to keysa last year," he said.
