Kiefer Ravena plan to try out for Ateneo volleyball team next season is no surprise: It's in the genes
Kiefer Ravena says his rumored girlfriend, La Salle Lady Spikers star Mika Reyes, has nothing to do with his plan to try out for Ateneo's volleyball team next season. Jerome Ascano

AFTER winning his first UAAP men's basketball MVP award, Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena said he plans to shift to another sport in the UAAP second semester sports calendar next year.

The Blue Eagles guard said he will try out for the men's volleyball team next year and has in fact already talked to Blue Eagles MVT head coach Oliver Almadro about his plan.

"Magta-try out ako sa volleyball next year," said Ravena. "Nakipag-usap na rin ako kay coach O."

It is no surprise that the 20-year old basketball phenom will play volleyball next year as he was part a two-sport varsity player during his elementary days at La Salle Greenhills.

Volleyball is laso in his genes.

His mother, Mozzy Crisologo Ravena, played for University of Santo Tomas as a utility spiker from 1988-1992 and bagged two championships, while his father Bong Ravena was a volleyball star back home before joining the University of the East basketball team in the UAAP.

"Naging varsity ako dati noong elementary, tapos noong nasa Ateneo na ako di na pwede (mag-volleyball), isa (na sport) na lang ang pwede," he said.

The King Eagle, who is an open spiker, however, said his volleyball plan has no connections with his rumored girlfriend Mika Reyes, a star of La Salle's women's volleyball team.

"No connection with Mika, gusto ko talaga (mag-volleyball)."
