KIEFER Ravena came up with 32 points following a sizzling first quarter that saw him score 21 and hit six straight triples as Ateneo beat National University, 68-59, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ravena scored Ateneo’s first 21 points as the Eagles grabbed a 21-8 lead en route to their seventh win in 11 outings.

Ateneo has won three straight games and now hold solo third, with a one-and-a-half game lead over archrival La Salle (5-5).

Ravena shot 6 for 11 clip from the 3-point line, 4 for 10 from the two-point range, and made 6 of 9 shots from the free throw line.

“It really helped us at the start when somebody is going to score 21 points in the first quarter. That’s going to be a big help for us,” said Ateneo coach Bo Perasol.

Von Pessumal had 20 points as he joined Ravena in scoring more than half of Ateneo’s output. He had nine markers in the fourth to stave off an NU rally.

“It took Von and Kiefer to score 52 points out of the 68. Offensively, there was really the effort of everybody getting them open. But at the end, it was also the defense that really counted,” said Perasol.

Gelo Alolino had 17 points while Alfred Aroga added 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who fell to 4-7.
