Kib Montalbo third Green Archer in as many weeks to be named UAAP Player of the Week
Kib Montalbo is doing well after missing last season with a knee ligament tear.

THREE weeks into his UAAP comeback from a major knee injury, Kib Montalbo is making his mark and has joined the list of Archers honored by scribes in Season 79.

Montalbo, out last season with an ACL tear, is the third La Salle player in as many weeks to be named UAAP Player of the Week as the Archers continued to dominate the field.

The 5-foot-9 guard of St. John’s Institute in Bacolod City had an all-around game with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals as La Salle clobbered Adamson.

The win was the fifth in as many games for La Salle and the fine performance earned Montalbo the nod from writers covering the UAAP.

He joins import Ben Mbala and skipper Jeron Teng on the list of awardees.

“I’m really happy that I’m back on the floor, especially sa system ni coach. I really like that pace, yung magulo. And whatever my role is, I’ll accept it.”

Coach Aldin Ayo is pleased to see the players embrace their roles, praising Montalbo for doing well both on defense and offense.

“Si Kib naman steady e,” said Ayo. “He prioritizes defense, yung mga intangibles. He just goes with the flow and executes on offense.”

Montalbo was picked by writers over Mbala, Far Eastern University’s Monbert Arong and Ateneo’s Anton Asistio for the Accel Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week award.
