Jolo Mendoza leads way as Ateneo downs FEU ahead of stepladder semis showdown in UAAP Juniors

ATENEO defeated Far Eastern University, 78-53, on Saturday in the final elimination round match to get a big boost ahead of their battle in the first phase of the stepladder semifinals of the UAAP Season 78 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Jolo Mendoza scored 17 points for the Blue Eaglets, who finished the elimination round with a 10-4 win-loss slate, third in the playoff seedings.

The Blue Eaglets play the No. 4 Baby Tamaraws (8-6) on Wednesday in a knockout game to start the stepladder playoffs and determine who will face twice-to-beat second seed De La Salle-Zobel (11-3). The winner takes on outright finalist National University.

The Bullpups gained an outright berth in the finals after completing a sweep of the elimination round with an 80-57 win over the Junior Archers.

Adamson ended the season on a winning note with a 77-63 win over University of Santo Tomas in a battle of also-rans. The Baby Falcons finished with a 7-7 card while the Tiger Cubs ended up with a 3-11 record.
