JOHN Lloyd Clemente and Justine Baltazar had double-doubles as National University trounced reigning champion Ateneo, 81-69, on Saturday to stay unbeaten in the UAAP Season 78 juniors basketball at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Clemente finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds while Baltazar added 15 points and 20 rebounds as the Bullpups opened leads as big as 25 points in a one-sided rematch between the two finalists last season.

NU improved to 8-0 at the start of the second-round hostilities. The Bullpups also completed a sweep of their season series against the Blue Eaglets, having posted a 73-60 win in the first round last December 12.

Clemente also had five triples even as Baltazar's dominance inside allowed the Bullpups to outrebound the Blue Eaglets, 60-38, to set the stage for the lopsided victory.

Gian Mamuyac had 19 points and nine rebounds while SJ Belangel added 17 points for the Blue Eaglets, who dropped to 5-3.

In the first game, Miguel Ratuiste had 22 points including the marginal free throw as University of Santo Tomas overcame a 21-point deficit to beat University of the East, 95-94.

The Tiger Cubs came away with their third win in eight outings after mounting a big comeback to frustrate the Junior Warriors, who remained winless in eight games.
