NATIONAL University coach Jamike Jarin praised John Lloyd Clemente for his fine play in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup, likening the former Bullpups star to PBA player JC Intal.

Clemente had 23 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, and shot 5-of-10 from threes as the Bulldogs quashed the Gilas cadets' playoff hopes in the preseason tournament.

“He is the second coming of JC Intal,” said Jarin of his upcoming player. “Athletic. Long. Same position. Personality, parehong tahimik. Parehong kapampangan.”

In the five years Intal played for Ateneo, Jarin was on the sidelines as assistant coach. He also coached against the then-Letran Squire Intal when he handled the Blue Eaglets.

Intal helped the Blue Eagles claim the UAAP crown in 2002.

The 19-year-old Clemente is setting his sights on a spot in the UAAP after playing for the NU Bullpups in high school and in NU’s Team B in college.

Jarin said he likes the 6-foot-3 Clemente’s versatility as he is allowing him to become a scorer for the Bulldogs.

“JLC is an off-guard forward player. I told him when people ask him what position he plays, always answer scorer. He is a two-way player as well,” said Jarin.

Jarin also said Clemente lets his game do the talking.

“Super quiet kid,” Jarin said.
