GOLDWIN Monteverde is close to signing a deal to become head coach of the National University high school team, sources told Spin.ph.

Only minor details are being ironed out, according to sources, before the deal becomes official for three-time UAAP juniors champion NU.

Monteverde is being eyed to replace the group of Jeff Napa, who won three UAAP titles for the Bullpups. Napa, sources said, however, will stay with NU as one of the assistant coaches of the seniors team.

Monteverde is in San Jose De Buenavista, Antique, and led National Capital Region to the Palarong Pambansa secondary basketball tournament.

Sources said the first order of business of Monteverde for NU is to recruit players from the Palaro including Ryan Calama-an, who was named to the Mythical Five while playing for Western Visayas.
