GERRY Abadiano is glad for the opportunity to play with the core of the National University UAAP team that placed second in Season 80.

Abadiano took a one-year residency after he transferred from Adamson to NU. He is playing with the UAAP squad in the ongoing NBTC National Finals.

The 17-year-old Abadiano said the NBTC is a great opportunity for him to fit in with the Bullpups, but added it is still a long way to go as far as getting accustomed to the play of each other.

“As individual, malakas kami pero kailangan pa namin mag-improve as a team, kung paano kami magtutulungan, paano kami dedepensa ng sabay, at hindi ‘yung kanya kanya,” said Abadiano.

Abadiano said he was also hurt when NU lost to Ateneo in the UAAP finals last month even though he was still taking his residency.

“Team ko rin ‘yun. Mindset ko lang, next season babawi kami. Kailangan namin mag-champion,” he said.

Abadiano dominated for NU in its 71-47 win over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, finishing with 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists. He exploded for 17 points in the second half.

Abadiano said he is starting to get his groove back after playing in Team B for Adamson.

“Siguro po bumabalik na (‘yung laro ko). Dati naninibago pa dahil bagong school tapos dati, NU ang pinakamabigat naming kalaban. Excited po ako kasi ‘yung ibang teammates ko, gagraduate, ‘yung iba makakasama ko pa next season,” said Abadiano.
