FAR Eastern University and National University aim for a share of second place as they face separate foes on Saturday in the UAAP Season 79 basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Tamaraws take on University of Santo Tomas at 4 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s finals, before the Bulldogs square off with University of the Philippines at 2 p.m.

Sporting 3-2 win-loss records, the Tamaraws and the Bulldogs seek to join Ateneo for second behind league-leading La Salle (6-0).

FEU posted its first winning streak of the season after beating UP and now looks to make it three straight.

“I think more than our focus on UST is, because of our struggles, we will spend more time on ourselves, correcting things and come out better,” FEU coach Nash Racela.

The Tamaraws will play without defensive specialist Ron Dennison, who is suspended for incurring a disqualifying foul in the UP game.

The Bulldogs enter the match against UP looking to score a follow-up to a big victory over UST.

The Maroons have lost two straight games, but NU coach Eric Altamirano says he is not taking UP lightly.

“There is no pushover in this league. We can’t overlook anybody. We need to play heads up against UP. They are a dangerous team. Wala kaming dapat ipagmalaki sa UP,” said Altamirano.
