Baby Tams slay another giant, tame Bullpups to gain share of second place in UAAP juniors

FAR Eastern University-Diliman continued its giant-killing ways on Saturday after beating reigning champion National University, 61-46, in the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Baby Tamaraws made a big statement a week after edging erstwhile unbeaten Adamson to share joint second with the Bullpups in the team standings with an 8-2 record.

FEU, which stained the Baby Falcons' 7-0 start in the first round, never trailed in the game and even led by as much as 18 points.

Xyrus Torres contributed 20 points, while Kenji Roman delivered for 12 markers and eight rebounds in holding his own against the NU bigs of Karl Penano and Rhayyan Amsali, who combined for 10 points and 13 boards for the Bullpups.

John Lloyd Clemente was the lone double digit scorer for the Bullpups with 14 points.

In the first game, De La Salle-Zobel thumped University of the East, 81-59.

Shan Exequiel Vesagas finished with 13 points, while Bryant Terrado added 12 points for the Junior Archers, who came away with a 3-7 record and still very much in contention for a Final Four spot.

Joaqui Mariano and Martin Romero also had 12 points each for La Salle-Zobel as they combined with Terrado for 18 of the Junior Archers’ 25 points in the third period to pull away from the Junior Warriors.
