FAR Eastern University won its seventh straight game, handily beating University of the Philippines, 68-57, on Wednesday to gain the solo lead in the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball at the Big Dome.

The Tamaraws survived some shaky moments in the first three quarters before stepping on the gas in the fourth quarter where they put the game away with an 18-2 run.

Last year's losing finalists now hold the solo spot with an 8-1 win-loss record, half-a-game ahead of idle University of Santo Tomas (7-1).

“Again we are not thinking about it,” said FEU coach Nash Racela, referring to the standings or the winning streak. “We are still looking for improvements. That’s something that we talked about in the last few days, how can we improve day to day.”

RR Pogoy had 19 points while Mac Belo had 12 points, including nine in the fourth period when FEU turned a 45-44 lead into a 63-46 advantage.

Pogoy shot 3-of-6 from three-point distance while Belo also had 12 rebounds in a double-double effort for the FEU veteran.

Diego Dario had a career-high 16 points while Jett Manuel chipped in 11 points for the Maroons, who fell to 3-6 despite holding leads in the game, the last time at 40-39.
