LA Salle big man Ben Mbala was named the MVP of the 2016 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.

Mbala averaged 21.9 points, 15.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.4 blocks en route to winning the individual award which he he received before the championship game between La Salle and Arellano.

The La Salle center also claimed a place in the Mythical Five alongside Green Archers teammates Jeron Teng and Abu Tratter, and Arellano’s Jio Jalalon and Kent Salado.

Mbala’s MVP win was expected after consistently putting in double-double numbers in the Green Archers' unbeaten run to the finals of the preseason tournament.

Mbala will see action for De La Salle in UAAP Season 79 where the Green Archers are tagged as the top favorites.

Entering the finals game, Mbala had a total of 197 points, just 13 behind the 210 scored by RR Garcia for Far Eastern University that stands as the record for the most points scored in one edition of the tournament.
