LA Salle goes for the solo lead in UAAP Season 79 basketball as the Archers take on the University of Santo Tomas Tigers on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Green Archers look to score their third win in as many games, while the Growling Tigers eye a second straight victory after dropping their opening game.

The match starts at 4 p.m.

La Salle coach Aldin Ayo expects nothing but a motivated Growling Tigers to show up.

“We don’t take for granted any team in the UAAP. UST, hindi nga naglaro ng Filoil ’yun, walang nakasilip nun pero tignan mo maglaro, buong buo. All the teams in the UAAP are competitive. Hindi puwedeng maging complacent,” said Ayo.

Ayo said every team is out to do their best against La Salle since the team is labeled as the “team-to-beat” for this season.

“Since you ranked us No. 1, every time they play us, for sure motivated sila. They will really do their best against us,” Ayo said.

UST seeks its second straight victory following an 88-87 victory over University of the East.

“Mataas ang confidence level nila. Lalaban ’to,” UST coach Boy Sablan said.

Renzo Subido played his best game as a college player as the third-year UST point guard scored 26 points against UE.

The Growling Tigers will looks to contain Ben Mbala, who had 30 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocks for the Green Archers in the 89-71 victory over University of the Philippines.
