LA Salle is embracing the system of new head coach Aldin Ayo, and so far, the results have been good.

The Green Archers recently topped a pocket tournament in Davao City, and the team’s star Jeron Teng said a big part of the success is their acceptance of the system Ayo put in place as soon as he was named to replace Juno Sauler in the offseason.

Incoming Cameroonian center Ben Mbala took the MVP plum in dominating fashion, scoring 38 points in one of the games.

But more than the offense, Teng said the Green Archers have become a tough defensive team under Ayo, who has espoused a trapping defense no different to the one he used to lead Letran to the NCAA championship last season.

“Tinuturuan talaga kami maging matapang,” Teng told “Sa defense, you have to be tougher talaga. Trapping team talaga kami ngayon.”

Even on offense, Teng also said the Green Archers have also found their comfort zone.

“Sa offense, gusto niya take every shot with confidence. Kung open, tira lang. He allows us to play and bring out our game,” Teng said.

Teng said the title victory in Davao bodes well for the Green Archers’ preparation for the UAAP, with preseason tournaments set to be held over the next few months.

“We have a new coach and we have a different system. Siguro it’s a way of telling us na this system works. Pang-gain din ng confidence to trust the new system,” Teng said.
