Court issues TRO on UAAP decision ruling UP cager Rob Ricafort ineligible for Season 80
Rob Ricafort could play for UP against La Salle after a court issued a TRO on the UAAP decision to rule him ineligible for Season 80.

ROB Ricafort has secured a Temporary Restraining Order from the courts that would allow the University of the Philippines cager to make his UAAP Season 80 debut when the Maroons go against La Salle on Saturday.

The TRO was issued by Judge Marlo Magdoza-Malagar of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 19, according to UP coach Bo Perasol.

"Rob took great lengths to assert his rights. The court has spoken," said Perasol.

Ricafort went to the courts after he was declared ineligible by the UAAP eligibility committee for exceeding the maximum age limit of 25 during the season.

Ricafort's contention, however, is that he will turn 25 by January in which the basketball season of the collegiate league has ended during that time.

But the UAAP Board, composed of school presidents by the eight member schools, later reaffirmed the eligibility committee's decision despite an appeal lodged by UP president Danilo Concepcion.

The TRO was issued on Friday morning, which will allow Ricafort to play on Saturday against the Green Archers.

"Nobody has the power to deny him that right which the court has protected. As his coach, the least I could do is to help him get back up, after stumbling in life many times over in the past," Perasol said.
