SAN Sebastian star CJ Perez broke his silence on his surprise decision to move to Ateneo but declined to reveal the reason behind it.

“Oo kinuha nila ako,” said Perez, two days after Ateneo officials confirmed that the 'Baby Beast' is set to join the Blue Eagles in the UAAP after playing two NCAA seasons with the Golden Stags.

Perez was first seen wearing a blue shirt during the UAAP Final Four game between Ateneo and National University, but he said it was only two weeks ago that the Blue Eagles’ camp talked to him about a possible transfer.

“Hindi pa ako kinukuha noon, sinama lang ako ng friend ko manood. Last last week lang nila ako kinausap,” Perez, a native of Bautista, Pangasinan, told

However, the Stags standout refused to comment when asked about the reasons behind his transfer.

The 6-foot-2 Perez played a big role in San Sebastian's march to the Final Four during his rookie season in 2013, earning raves for his athleticism and energy that led to comparisons with another former Stags star, Calvin Abueva.

In the recently concluded Season 90 of the NCAA, Perez placed third in the league in scoring with an average of 18.2 points per game, on top of 7.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals.

After spending one year in residency, the 19-year-old is tipped to reinforce the Blue Eagles' young core on the year after the departure of star Kiefer Ravena, who will play his final season with the school next year.

“Oo sa paglipat ko isang taon muna ako sa Team B,” he said.
