UNABLE to lead his team to the semifinal round, CJ Cansino vowed to bounce back next season.

University of Santo Tomas fell short of the Final Four of the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament, bowing to De La Salle-Zobel, 72-65, in the playoff for the No. 4 spot.

The Cubs had a 6-8 win-loss record in the eliminations, and Cansino is determined to help his team do better next season.

“Paghahandaan ko ng todo next season,” said the 17-year-old Cansino.

“Aaminin ko, hindi ko nabigay ang lahat. Akala namin kaya namin sila. Sa susunod na season, lalo naming paghahandaan.”

Cansino topscored for the Tiger Cubs with an average of 12.8 points, while hauling down 6.9 rebounds and dishing out 2.1 assists.

They got another chance at the semis after the forfeiture of Adamson's games, but the Tigers Cubs couldn’t take full advantage, while Joaqui Mariano and the rest of the Junior Archers booked a trip to the Final Four.

In the playoff game, the 6-foot-1 Cansino had 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Still, Cansino, saw some positives in the tough season.

“Laging sa dulo kami nakakabawi. Halos lahat ng games namin, pagdating sa second half, dun gumaganda laro namin. Siguro matagal kami mag-init,” Cansino said.
