UST Tiger Cub CJ Cansino bags UAAP Juniors MVP title

CJ CANSINO is the Most Valuable Player of the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball division, according to an official statistics report from the league.

The University of Santo Tomas cager accumulated 88.4286 statistical points at the end of the elimination round, according to league statistics provider Imperium Technology.

Cansino beat Ateneo center Kai Sotto, who had 70.2143 SPs after 14 games.

Statistics is the lone basis for awards in the UAAP basketball competition.

The last UST Tiger Cub to win the juniors MVP award was Kevin Ferrer in 2010. Ferrer went on to play for the Tigers and is now with Barangay Ginebra in the PBA.

The 6-foot-2 Cansino averaged 24.6 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.4 steals for the Tiger Cubs, who finished in a tie for fourth with Adamson with a 7-7 win-loss record at the end of the elimination round.

SJ Belangel of Ateneo was third in the MVP race with 68.8571 SPs, followed by L-Jay Gonzales of Far Eastern University with 65.7143, and Dave Ildefonso of Ateneo with 64.2143.

Agem Miranda of University of the East (64), Joem Sabandal of Adamson (62.5385), Raven Cortez of De La Salle-Zobel (61.3571), Rhayyan Amsali of National University (61.2857), and Joaqui Manuel of Ateneo (59.5) round out the top 10.
