IN the middle of his first press conference as a UAAP champion, Far Eastern University head coach Nash Racela was doused with water by his celebrating players.

That put a fitting high point to an amazing ride over the last couple of days for Racela, who won his first major championship as a head coach just two days after celebrating his 44th birthday.

The 67-62 win over the University of Santo Tomas in Game Three came as a perfect gift - something the Tamaraws players had promised their coach just days earlier.

“The guys like si Mike (Tolomia), he texted me the other day and said, ‘Coach, happy birthday. Sa Wednesday na lang ‘yung gift mo,’” said Racela.

“Ganun din sinabi ng ibang players,” the FEU coach added.

Needless to say, the coach was grateful.

“This is a good gift from my players. That’s something that they guaranteed. They delivered and I’m really thankful,” said Racela.
