Ben Mbala to skip Cameroon campaign in qualifiers to focus on La Salle repeat bid
Ben Mbala is keeping his focus on La Salle and is only interested in suiting up for Cameroon after the UAAP season.

BEN Mbala vowed not to miss La Salle games for the remainder of the UAAP men's basketball season despite being called up by the Cameroon national team for the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.

Mbala was included in the 24-man pool of Cameroon for the reformatted Fiba World Cup qualifiers, where the games will be played in certain windows under a home-and-away format.

The 6-foot-7 Cameroonian, however, said he will not take part in his country's qualifying campaign, at least not in November where it will be played while the UAAP is still ongoing.

"Sadly I might have to decline," said Mbala, when asked about his status for the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.

The new format, however, opens the possibility that different players will suit up during the window periods.

The La Salle import was quick to point out, though, that he was willing to suit up for Cameroon in the next windows for the qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup in China after the UAAP season.

"Yes, of course," added Mbala, who led Cameroon to the quarterfinals during the 2017 Fiba AfroBasket.
