BEN Mbala is expected to sit out La Salle's first few games in Season 80 of the UAAP men's basketball tournament after being called up to the Cameroon side that will see action in the Fiba AfroBasket slated to run from September 8-16.

Mbala, who led the Green Archers to the championship in his first season with the team, is part of the 13-man lineup submitted by Cameroon for the tournament where it is grouped in Pool C with host Tunisia, Rwanda and Guinea.

The coming UAAP season is set to start on September 9 and the AfroBasket call-up should rule out Mbala from the Green Archers' debut game against Far Eastern University on September 10 - and possibly more if Cameroon goes deeper in the knockout stage.

Cameroon, which is without NBA players Joel Embiid and Luc Mba a Moute, plays Tunisia on September 8, Guinea on September 9 and Rwanda on September 10 needing two wins to guarantee a spot in the knockout rounds.

The defending champion Archers, on the other hand, are set to play National University on eptember 16.
