BEN Mbala put on another dominating performance for La Salle to put away University of the Philippines, 89-71, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 79 seniors basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Mbala was a force for the Green Archers against the Maroons, finishing with 30 points and 14 rebounds, and shot 12-of-15 from the field to lead his team to its second win in as many games.

The Maroons suffered their second straight defeat to start the season.

The Green Archers led by as many as 28 points in the wire-to-wire victory following the close win over Far Eastern University in their season opener last Wednesday.

Mbala also provided the highlight plays in the match, completing an alley-oop dunk from Thomas Torres, one of his three rim-rattlers in the contest. The Cameroonian sensation was also impressive on defense, swatting away two UP shots

La Salle coach Aldin Ayo, however, pointed out the team’s deficiencies against the Maroons.

“We just played our game on defense. We put on the effort. But we still had 26 turnovers. Kulang pa kami. Kailangan namin mag-trabaho especially sa finish,” said Ayo.

Abu Tratter and Jeron Teng had 12 points, while Jollo Go added 11 points for the Green Archers.

Paul Desiderio led the Maroons with 21 points.
