AXEL Iñigo wanted to crack Far Eastern University's lineup so badly after his transfer from Adamson that he went on a no-rice diet for four months in the offseason.

“Nagpapayat talaga ako,” said Iñigo. “No rice for four months. Kailangan mag-sacrifice para ma-lineup ako."

Iñigo’s efforts are paying off this season. Not only did he make the FEU lineup, but Iñigo shone in the match against his former team, finishing with 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the Tamaraws' 75-65 victory over the Falcons.

After last playing for the Falcons in 2014, the 5-7 sophomore guard said he missed playing in the UAAP, but made sure not to be too eager in his Tamaraws debut.

“Na-miss ko nga eh. ‘Yung first game ko, inenjoy ko lang talaga. Walang pressure, enjoy the game. Wala naman akong ineexpect, basta mag-deliver lang ako,” said the crafty guard.

Iñigo said he has lost 25 pounds since the no-rice diet and is trying to lose more.

“Ngayon, half rice pero minsan nagda-diet pa rin ako para mas pumayat pa ako para sa second round. Sabi nga nila, kulang pa raw,” said Iñigo, who is turning to protein-rich foods for strength.

Making the ideal playing weight this season is Iñigo's way of repaying the faith of FEU coach Nash Racela.

“Gusto ko lang makatulong sa team para kay Coach Nash, kasi binigyan niya ako ng chance kaya ako na-lineup,” said the former Falcons guard.
