ATENEO maintained its lead in the UAAP Season 80 basketball, beating University of the East, 83-65, on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Blue Eagles stayed unbeaten after four games.

The struggling Red Warriors fell to 0-4, joining University of Santo Tomas at the bottom of the standings.

Thirdy Ravena had 21 points and eight rebounds, while Matt Nieto added 11 points, making 2 of 3 shots from the three-point line for Ateneo.

Ravena sparked a late fourth-quarter run that put Ateneo ahead by 21 points, 81-60.

"We can't say we have control of the game because we kept keeping the score within distance. In this team, you can't take any team for granted. It's a good thing that the players responded especially putting the clamps down on UE in the fourth," said Ateneo lead assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga.

Aaron Black scored 10 points in 14 minutes while Mike Nieto chipped in 10 points, including two triples.

"UE is a tough team. For a minute there, we fell into the trap of thinking that they are a 0-3 team. In the third quarter, we gave up 29 points against them. We knew that they were a tough team and they put a lot of effort when they play," Arespacochaga said.

Alvin Pasaol had 22 points for the winless Red Warriors.
