ATENEO defeated National University, 64-49, on Saturday in a battle of unbeaten teams in the UAAP Season 80 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Blue Eaglets became the only undefeated team this season with the victory over the Bullpups to go 6-0 going into their final first round game against De La Salle-Zobel next Saturday.

What was expected to be a close game turned into a rout as the Blue Eaglets led by as many as 23 points thanks to their defense.

SJ Belangel had 14 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and four steals, while Dave Ildefonso tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Eaglets, who also got 10 points and eight rebounds from Joaqui Manuel.

Kai Sotto was in the forefront of the Blue Eaglets’ defensive stand as he had 12 rebounds and eight blocks to go along with his six points in the game.

The Blue Eaglets forced the Bullpups to only 24 percent from the field, while outrebounding their opponents, 58-43.

Terrence Fortea was the top scorer for NU but only had nine points. The Bullpups were able to cut the gap to 10 in the final period but that was the closest they can get.

The Bullpups occupy second place with a 5-1 slate.
