Ateneo Blue Eagles repulse Sydney in OT to end 'Goodwill' campaign on high note

ATENEO survived a gritty stand by Sydney to post a 77-73 overtime victory on Saturday and end its campaign in the 1st Philippine-Australia Goodwill Basketball Invitational on a high note at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Von Pessumal had 25 points including six three to go along with three steals while Kiefer Ravena finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists as the Blue Eagles ended the tournament with a 3-2 win-loss slate.

The Blue Eagles, however, needed an extra five minutes to take the victory over the Amigos who played their finest game of the tournament.

After Pessumal hit a three-pointer with two minutes left in the fourth for a 67-62 lead, the Amigos fought back behind Krenz Carlos who hit two free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation to forge overtime.

Pessumal scored four points in overtime including two crucial free throws with 12.7 seconds left for a 76-73 lead that held until the end.

Carlos had 23 points to pace the Amigos, who finished the tournament with a 1-4 win-loss card.
