ATENEO bounced back from its disappointing season debut with a 84-60 victory over Adamson on Saturday in the UAAP Season 78 seniors basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

With Kiefer Ravena leading the charge by scoring 24 points, the Blue Eagles leaned on a big third quarter to put the game away following a tight first half that saw them lead by only four points.

Ateneo lost to Far Eastern University, 64-88, on Sunday.

Von Pessumal had 12 points while rookie Aaron Black made his seniors debut by scoring 11 points on a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range for the Blue Eagles, who began the third period with an 11-3 run.

In all, Ateneo outscored Adamson, 28-18, in the third period.

“The way we played in the second half was the way we had envisioned our team to be this season,” said Ateneo coach Bo Perasol. “It’s really a good win for us, not for anything else, but for our confidence. It’s really important.

“Whatever confidence we had, it was really shattered after we lost to FEU,” Perasol admitted.

After a tight first half, Adamson couldn’t keep up with Ateneo as it gave up 12 triples in the game to trail by as many as 26 points at one point.

Papi Sarr had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Falcons, who dropped to 0-2.
