ARIC Del Rosario could be making a return to University of Santo Tomas, a school he led during a golden age in the UAAP during the 1990s.

Sources told SPIN.ph the multi-titled head coach is being eyed to become a consultant of the UST men's basketball team in a bid to give the struggling Tigers a badly needed shot in the arm.

A source revealed people connected with the Tigers organization are talking to Del Rosario's camp on a possible role in a team wracked by controversy after the departure of players disgruntled with current head coach Boy Sablan.

It is not clear if the move to bring in Del Rosario has the blessings of Sablan, but a source said Del Rosario has been given the green light to look for players to reinforce the current team.

Del Rosario transformed UST into the most dominant UAAP team in the nineties when he led the Tigers to four straight league crowns from from 1993 to 1996.

Since then, UST has won just one title in 2006 under head coach Pido Jarencio.

Del Rosario's last coaching gig was with Perpetual Help, which he guided to Final Four appearances in tandem with son Lester before stepping down in 2014.

SPIN.ph has earlier reported that there is an effort to bring in former UST standout Bobby Jose and former PBA star Gerry Esplana as part of a reorganization of Sablan's staff.

Two members of Sablan's current staff will be let go, a source added.

Jose, who played for UST in the mid-80s, is a good friend of Sablan. However, Sablan has no known relationship with Del Rosario, having spent his time as a player at UST during the late Charlie Badion's time in charge in the early 80s.
